Born in New York, raised in Jamaica and now a resident of Texas, Chef Jay McCarthy is in a league of his own with his distinct style of melting the influences of the Caribbean with Southwestern cooking basics. Originally earning a degree from A&M University in aerospace engineering, Chef Jay decided to try his hand in the kitchen enjoying the creative freedom of blending flavors and has never looked back.
Chef Jay’s journey spans over 20 years in the business earning several awards, writing books, and launching successful restaurants. He holds the distinct title as a Certified Culinary Professional through the International Association of Culinary Professionals. He is a popular chef on Food Network. Notable accolades include an award as Alamo City’s “Best Chef” and named the “most creative chef in San Antonio” by Mary Mahaffey, President of the Heart of Texas Specialty Foods in Austin. Over the years Chef Jay McCarthy has been invited as guest chef to several restaurants and hotels throughout South East Asia including Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.
Currently Chef Jay McCarthy is the Global Chef at the Texas Beef Council and The U.S. Meat Export Federation. He spends much of his time as a consultant and teacher both in the U.S. and overseas in addition to his current projects in Colorado with Blue Moose Pizza and 188 South.
